Halfway There
Hello all,
Sunchaser has been in development for about a year and a half now. The game has been through a couple complete redesigns, and countless smaller changes through that time, but I am proud to say that the game's core mechanics and story are (almost) set in stone now. I have already planned out the flow of the rest of the game, and started planning the details of each of the remaining two areas.
I must say that I have come a long way as a developer during this project. I have kept myself on deadlines and have worked hard to develop my ability to create, imagine, and explore ideas.
Recently, I enlisted the help of a few friends who will be helping me complete the game. I will still be coding the whole game by myself and doing the art, but my friends will be helping with the dialogue, characters, story, and music.
Now to explain the content of the most recent update and things to look forward to:
In version 0.2.2, you can explore three unique areas, each with citizens of Mallard to save, creatures to defend against, and puzzles to solve. There is also unique music and visuals in each area. The areas are as follows:
-The Suburbs: Our hero's home base, where his friends and family live. Because of the fog of darkness that has descended on the area, the town has become increasingly dangerous. Giant rabbits attack innocent people, juvenile troublemakers own the streets, and creatures made of liquid darkness roam, feeding on the light that remains.
-The Concrete Forest: The trails in town lead into the forest, which is normally a nice place to have an afternoon stroll. Now, however, it has become the den of a monster called a Lighteater. This humongous creature is deadly to touch and has dozens of menacing eyeballs, but our hero must defeat it to remedy the situation in Mallard.
-Memorial Park: A graveyard that has recently been covered by a dense haze that prevents any sunlight from breaking through. This place is treacherous for a Sunchaser, since it is so dark; not to mention the lethal scarecrow soldiers that hunt prey through the headstones. Rumor has it a Lighteater awaits here as well...
Alright, that's all for now. I will be posting more often to update you all on my progress. Please continue to play the game and provide feedback.
-Alex
